Since I am still unpacking my moving boxes and cleaning out my little closet, I decided to build a small extension to my main layout in this little closet. Little indeed, only 54x27inch or in the metric system: 137x68cm This way I can spent a little time on my miniature trains, while still working on getting my home back to where it was before the water damage.
I am modelling a small town with a train station for commuters to the big city in the main train layout. All the buildings are going to be from Artitec, so you could call it Artitec city, uhm… the town of Artitec.
Let’s start at the beginning.
So, this is literally the smallest closet in my house, however I still decided I could get some interesting things going on in here. After cleaning out the closet I started with finishing the walls and ceiling. I installed a ceiling light coming from the newly installed light switch located in the room. I wired the 120-volt cables for the switch and two ceiling lights in this room trough the attic, so there are no visible cables.
After the repairs and new work, I applied a clean coat of black paint and also decided to install a display case onto the wall, which I cover in a separate blog.
I used the same kind of construction I use in the main layout room, just a few studs mounted onto the wall attached to the studs inside the wall. I then placed a 1-inch-thick wood panel on top as the base for the layout “table”. The little piece of wood on top is to help me with attaching the display case.
After the train table was in place I came to the inclusion that it would be nice to have some light here for when I am working underneath the table, so I installed an outlet for the light. Since there is no room to install a light switch in the wall, at least not without intense modifications, I bought a light with a “pull chain switch”.
Well, that was not a great idea. The cheesy mounting hardware is not strong enough to withstand the force created when pulling the chain to turn the light on, so I added a WiFi switch… easier to say, “Alexa turn on the light”.
